A lift (or lifting) mast is an attachment for tractors, used for loading, unloading and transporting. A tractor with lifting mast can essentially replace a forklift truck. The tractor is often fitted with load-sensing hydraulics which prevent the tractor from tipping forwards or backwards. Lifting masts are available with different specifications, for example various different heights, according to the needs of the user. Single, double and even triple masts are available. Single masts are formed of a lone rigid mast with a lifting track, generally reaching a height of around 1.8 m.
The double mast can reach greater heights thanks to the additional inner mast which doubles the lifting height. The triple mast can thus reach three times the height of the single mast, with two inner masts. Modern duplex and triplex masts make use of 'full free lift', where the fork can be raised the full height of the outer mast before using the inner masts, without raising the outer mast at all. This enables these masts to manoeuvre in smaller spaces. As well as being vertically adjustable, lifting masts are also vertically moveable.
